The GL hockey team is back in action for the 2015-2016 season! There are high hopes for the season as captains Matt Koutsaftes and Danny Kramer try to lead the team the top of the high school hockey ladder. There is a lot of hype surrounding the 2015-2016 season because of a crop of new young talent that is on the team this year. When asked how the team is looking this year team captain Matt Koutsaftes replied “that there are very high skilled players returning, and good freshman coming up in the ranks”. Last year highlanders supported the team more than ever before. The vibe inside the Union sports arena was electric during home games. “Last year was great, it was the most support we ever had, this were expecting more from underclassmen” said Matt Koutsaftes. The team this year is looking better than ever, the exciting young underclassmen are really looking forward to drive the team to victory. This year the team is adopting a new slogan that will hopefully inspire feverish chants from the highlander crowds. FREEZE THE SHIPS!!!!!!! While it is very similar to the popular GL football slogan “Burn the Ships”, Koutsaftes claims that the slogan is entirely original and will hopefully lead the team to success this year. “The preparation that we are putting in for this year was immense. We as a team are coming together to work for a common goal to win the state championship.” said Koutsaftes. Senior goalie Matthew Altomare is coming off his best year in the net last year. In the upcoming season he hopes to improve on last years solid season, and win more games. Last year the team finished near the bottom of their conference and finished with a record of 9-12-2. Opening night is on Friday December 4th against Westfield. The crowd at the union sports arena will be amped and ready to go on Friday, Freeze the ships !!!
